Abstract

903,484. Practice ammunition. JANS, L. Aug. 30, 1960, No. 29868/60. Class 9 (1). A practice hand-grenade comprises a disintegrable body 2, preferably of synthetic plastic material and filled with liquid 1, an ignition head 6 connected to a small explosive charge 8 via a delay charge 7 and a spring 17 (shown compressed in the Figure) which is welded at its lower end to a ring 16 and attached at its upper end to a tube 11. A cap 15 encloses the upper portion of the body 2 and forms one unit with leaf springs 19 whose curved portions 20 engage with a groove 21. The upper end 13 of the tube 11 is attached by a screw 14 to the cap 15 and the lower end 12 is tongued, the inner surface of each tongue being prepared as a friction surface. To use the grenade, latch pin 22 is removed and the grenade is thrown. The spring 17 expands and the cap 15, leaf springs 19, ring 16 and tube 11 remove themselves as one unit from the body 2, the friction surfaces on the tongues 12 igniting the ignition head 6 in the process. On explosion of the charge 8 by ignition means described in Specification 893,080, the body 2 ruptures and the liquid 1 disperses as a cloud of droplets. The invention may also be embodied in practice projectiles, mines or bombs.
