Abstract

903,146. Stud and socket fastenings; nails &c. ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc. Oct. 14, 1959, No. 34847/59. Classes 44 and 89 (2). A one-piece plastic fastener 20 consists of a head 22 with a shank in the form of two or more flexible laterally-spaced longitudinal portions, such as 28, 30, which converge towards the free end of the shank and are held apart, when the fastener is unstressed, by one or more flexible laterally-extending portions such as 44, and shoulder portions 36 externally of the shank and in the vicinity of a laterally-extending portion. In other forms the laterally-extending portions are scissor-shaped, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown); the head is recessed, Fig. 7 (not shown); the shank is substantially of diamond shape with one or two laterally-extending portions, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown), and has links integral with the head, Figs. 11, 12 (not shown); the free ends of the shank portion are separated, Fig. 13 (not shown); and in Figs. 16, 17 (not shown) the head includes a collar portion. The fastener may be cut from extruded stock.
