Abstract
902,784. Magnetic compositions. FREI, E. H., SCHIEBER, M., and SHTRIKMAN, S. April 14, 1960 [April 15, 1959], No. 13490/60. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (2). Ferromagnetic materials exhibiting a hexagonal magneto-plumbite structure have the formula Me 1 F 2 .5Fe 2 O 3 .2Me 2 O, wherein Me 1 is an alkaline earth or bivalent lead and Me 2 is magnesium, zinc, bivalent iron or bivalent cobalt. In preparation, the material Me 1 F 2 (e.g. BaF 2 ) is mixed with ferric oxide and, if required, the bivalent oxide Me 2 O or one of its oxide-yielding compounds. The mixture is ground and prefired at 1000 C. or 1100 C., magnetized and washed in a magnetic field to remove non-magnetic material. The ground mass is then pressed into shape under 500 kg./cm. in a field of 7000 Oe, dried for 2 hours at 120 C. and sintered at 1250 C. or 1280 C. in an atmosphere of dry oxygen.
