Abstract

902,758. Refrigerating. PORTER & CO. (SALFORD) Ltd., T. Aug. 29, 1958 [Sept. 3, 1957], No. 27702/57. Class 29. In apparatus for maintaining a liquid at a predetermined temperature, e.g. 57‹ F., in an insulated tank 1, the tank being provided with a heat-exchange coil 3 and a thermostat 4, 5, the coil 3 is supplied with liquid refrigerant from condenser 7 and expansion valve 8 if the temperature is too high, and if the temperature is too low, a valve 14 is opened so that hot gas flows to coil 3 from compressor 6, any refrigerant condensate from the evaporator being vaporized in heater 10, energized when valve 14 is open. A three-position switch 16 in one position renders the whole system inactive, in a second position causes the system to operate as described above, and in a third position prevents opening of valve 14, prevents energization of heater 10, and changes the control point of thermostat 4, 5 to 32 ‹ F. for chilling purposes. The evaporator may be constructed as described in Specifications 826,624 or 852,416, and the thermostat 4 as described in Specification 859,093.
