Abstract

902,491. Bearings. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Feb. 23, 1961 [March 4, 1960], No. 7860/60. Class 12 (1). A thrust bearing arrangement interconnecting two rotating shafts 10 and 11 comprises two adjacent ball-bearings 13 and 14 with split inner races 16, 16a, 17a and 17 clamped to shaft 10 between a shoulder 18 and ring 19. To prevent independent rotary movement between each, the outer races 15 and 16b have axial extending intercalated dogs 29 and 30, together with opposite handed helical splines 24 and 25 which engage with corresponding internal splines 26 and 27 of the sleeve 28. Thus, by mutual interaction under a thrust load the bearings carry an equal share of the loading.
