Abstract
Triethylene diamine is separated from reaction mixtures containing piperazine and other nitrogenous compounds by distilling the mixture in the presence of an added stable inert water-insoluble organic compound boiling in the range 135-180 DEG C., the added compound being an alkyl aromatic hydrocarbon, an ester of an aromatic or aliphatic carboxylic acid or a halogenated aromatic or aliphatic hydrocarbon, recovering from the distillation a fraction boiling in the approximate range 160 DEG -195 DEG C. containing the major portion of the triethylene diamine present, cooling this fraction and separating therefrom substantially pure triethylene diamine crystals. Specification 871,754 is referred to.
