Abstract
A solution of styrene in natural rubber, polychloroprene or acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer is flowed through an elongated tubular reactor and is subjected to increasingly higher temperatures to effect progressive interpolymerization. In the example benzoyl peroxide is used as catalyst and the apparatus described has successive reaction zones at 100 DEG C., 130 DEG C., 155 DEG C. and 180 DEG C.
