Abstract
Dihydroquinacridones are made by heating 2:5 - bis - (arylamino)-3:6-dihydro-terephthalic esters in an aluminium chloride melt. The melt may also contain phosphorus pentoxide, sulphur dioxide and salts such as sodium chloride, fluoride or sulphite, calcium chloride, potassium chloride and magnesium sulphate. Diethyl and dimethyl esters may be used. Examples are given.ALSO:Quinacridones are made by heating 2 : 5-bis-(arylamino)-terephthalic acids in an aluminium chloride melt. The melt may also contain phosphorus pentoxide, sodium chloride, sodium fluoride, calcium chloride, potassium chloride, magnesium sulphate, sodium sulphite and sulphur dioxide. Terephthalic acids specified are those wherein the aryl group is naphthalene, phenanthrene or pyrene, or benzene which may be substituted by methyl, methoxy, halogen, nitro or phenyl. The quinacridones may also be made by oxidising dihydroquinacridones prepared by heating 2 : 5-bis-(arylamino)-3 : 6-dihydroterephthalic esters in an aluminium chloride melt. Examples are given.
