Abstract
901,887. Electrical counting circuits. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. Jan. 26, 1960 [Jan. 26, 1959], No. 2733/59. Class 106 (1). To ensure proper operation of a ring counter, e.g. in a railway signalling system, even though one of the stages fails, each stage is prepared for operation by two of the preceding stages. In Fig. 1 stepping pulses are applied alternately to leads S1 S2. Operation of either stage A or stage B restores stage C so that the next stepping pulse on lead S1 reoperates C. Failure of either A or B then has no effect on the proper operation of C. In Fig. 2; stepping pulses are applied in turn to leads S1-S4 to operate stages AD. Stage E is controlled by A and B, C and D in pairs and failure of any one of A-D either to operate or release has no ill effect on E. A pulse applied over lead RL either to all the stages or only to the first four restores all stages. Fig. 3 shows the invention applied to the disclosure in Specification 901,886 in which an auxiliary transistor TR3C controlled by the preceding stage B is augmented by another transistor TR4C controlled by the next preceding stage A. To ensure that the stepping pulse on lead S1 which operates stage A shall not also operate stage C, the control lead between the stages includes a capacity delay RCA2.
