Abstract

901,139. Packaging machines. HESSER MASCHINENFABRIK A.G., FR. Oct. 31, 1960 [Dec. 16, 1959], No. 37401/60. Class 94(1). Apparatus for heat-sealing package closures of thermoplastic film or foil comprises a pair of belts 7, conveying the packages P past heating elements 8, and heated dies 9 in the form of rotating cylinders, which apply further heat and pressure to seal the closures by means of pressing surfaces, Fig. 2, corresponding to the contour of the closures which may comprise multiple layers of material. The elements 8 and dies 9 are heated by built-in electrical heating resistances but may, alternatively, be heated by steam, hot air, or hot fluids. After passing the dies 9 the packages are carried past cooling elements 10. The packages are fed along a conveyer belt 1 and between presser plates 2. The belts 7 may be of glass fabric laminated with tetrafluorethylene. If the device is to operate intermittently, the dies 9 may be replaced by reciprocating blocks, Fig. 3 (not shown).
