900,964. Pencil leads. SCHWANHAUSSER, E., and SCHWANHAUSSER, G., [trading as SCHWAN-BLEISTIFT-FABRIK, SCHWANHAUSSER & CO.]. Sept. 1, 1958 [Nov. 4, 1957; May 3, 1958], No. 28017/58. Addition to 900,963. Class 146 (3). A burnt pencil lead composition as claimed in the parent Specification comprises one or more natural resins in chemical combination and/or in admixture with the polar fatty substance. The fatty substance may be any of those mentioned in the parent Specification and the resins include resin acids, e.g. abietic acid, and resin alcohols which may be combined with the fatty substances to form esters and/or ethers therewith. The effect of the addition of the resin is to increase cohesion of the lead and increase its adhesion to smooth surfaces. The following example is given :- 85 parts by weight of graphite and 15 parts of clay are formed into rods, fired and impregnated with a melt of 50 parts of colophony and 50 parts of a polydiol having a molecular weight of about 1000 and a wax-like consistency, or a resin acid ester thereof.
