Abstract
900,917. Blasting explosives. FRUTIGER, F. Nov. 25, 1959 [Nov. 27, 1958; June 25, 1959], No. 40085/59. Class 9 (2). An oxygen-balanced liquid or plastic blasting explosive free from liquid esters of nitric acid, comprises an aqueous phase and a solid phase dispersed in said aqueous phase which aqueous phase contains an inorganic oxygen carrier in dissolved form and a hydrophilic colloidal substance, the solid phase contaning organic material with a detonating velocity of below 7500 metres per second and from 0-15% by weight based on the total weight of the blasting explosive of an organic explosive material with a detonating velocity of above 7500 metres per second. If plastic, the explosive contains less than about 8% of water and if liquid from about 8-28% of water. The low velocity explosive may be trinitrotoluene, and the high velocity explosive pentrit, tetryl or hexogen. The oxygen carrier may be the nitrate of ammonium, sodium, potassium, calcium, barium or lead; or a chlorate or perchlorate. The emulsion may be produced with the aid of hydrophilic colloids such as gelatin, agar-agar, polyvinyl alcohol, dextrin, pectin, or starch; and castor oil, olive oil, cottonseed oil, linseed oil, rape seed oil, polyglycol ether, butyl glycol, lauryl alcohol, diethylene glycol ether, liquid nitro toluenes, nitrobenzene, dinitroxylene and dinitrocumene, and aluminium may also be added.
