Abstract
899,809. Oscillating motors. GODEFROY, J. Sept. 14, 1959 [April 21, 1959], No. 31198/59. Class 35. [Also in Group XIV] An electric dry shaver comprises a motor having a swinging armature 23 with a pin 24 forming a common drive for reciprocation of blades 1, and oscillation, at a different frequency, of an apertured shear plate 3 about an axis lying in the direction of movement of the blades. The armature 23 is oscillated by coils and magnetic parts 27, 28, the oscillations of the pin 24, damped by springs 9a, rotating a block 9 on a shaft 8 to reciprocate the blades through the pin 4. The shaft 8 is mounted in bearings in the casing 7 for rotation by a ratchet-wheel 32 secured to the shaft 8 and operatively connected to the block 9 by a spring 31, the shear plate being oscillated in bearings 5, 5<SP>1</SP> by the engagement of its edges 16, 17 with cams 19, 19a fast with the shaft and having oppositely directed operative faces. Rotation of the shaft on the backward swing of the armature is prevented by the engagement of a spring 30 with the ratchet teeth. In a modification, reduced drive from the armature shaft is transmitted to the shear plate by two concentric roller couplings secured to the housing and to the shaft respectively and separated by an annulus secured to a cam plate which oscillates the shear plate and is only partially rotated by movement in one direction of the shaft.
