Abstract

899,286. Valves. BIBBY, R., and MOORE, J., [trading as BIBBY & CO., T.]. May 8, 1959 [May 8, 1958], No. 14713/58. Class 135. A three-position valve for connection in series with a pump and a tank to reverse the flow of liquid through the tank or to transfer liquid from the tank to a reservoir consists of a body 10 having a cylindrical bore containing a rotary valve member comprising a disc 24 bisecting diametrically opposite tank ports 13, vanes 25, 26 at right-angles to each other above and below the disc 24, an arcuate extension 27 on one side of the vane 25 and subtending an angle of 90 degrees at the axis, and a semicircular plate 28 on the other side of the vane 25. With the valve member in,the position shown, liquid from the pump enters through a port 11 and passes through the upper half of the port 13 to the tank and returns from the tank to the diametrically opposite port (not shown) from which it flows to a part 12 connected to the inlet of the pump. When the valve member is turned anti-clockwise through 90 degrees the upper half of the port 13 is closed by the extension 27, the pump delivery port 11 is connected with the tank port diametrically opposite to the port 13, and the lower half of the port 13 is connected with the pump inlet port 12. When the valve member is turned clockwise through 90 degrees from the position shown, liquid from the tank passes through the lower half of the port 13 to the pump inlet port 12 whilst the pump delivery port 11 connects with a reservoir port (not shown) in the end of the body which was previously closed by the semicircular plate 28, and the upper half of the tank port opposite to the port 13 is closed by the extension 27, the lower half being isolated by the vane 26. The edges of the vanes 25, 26 may have means for sealing with the valve bore. Also the extension 27 may have resilient sealing means.
