A method of printing a coloured photographic image wherein the cyan coupler absorbs a certain wave-length in the region ranging from ultraviolet to violet to the same extent as the dyestuff obtained therefrom and the yellow dyestuff strongly absorbs this wavelength comprises printing the yellow part image with light comprising this wave-length and printing the cyan and magenta images by light comprising the red and green spectral ranges respectively. The method allows more easily a distance between the three absorption maxima and hence a better colour separation in printing. In an example a multilayer material with a usual composition contains in the red, green and blue sensitive layers the respective couplers (of which Specifications 774,421 and 831,731 are referred to for preparations of the first and third respectively and the second, magenta, may be prepared by heating 6-amino-indazolone-hydrochloride with cetenyl succinic acid and pyridine), is printed after exposure and usual colour development to negative on to a positive having sensitising ranges corresponding to the absorption ranges of the negative using as filter a gelatine layer containing 2: 4-dihydroxy-5-sulphobenzoic acid together with [2-(3-ethyl-5-methyl-thiodiazole)]- [2-(3-ethyl thiazoline)] trimethine cyanine iodide. Five further cyan and two further yellow couplers for the purpose are quoted. Specification 663,190 also is referred to.
