A pigment composition for application to fibrous materials or films contains as a fixing agent for the pigment a mixture of shellac and a phosphoric or thiophosphoric acid triamide of the formula <FORM:0898302/III/1> in which Z represents an oxygen or sulphur atom and R represents a group of the formula <FORM:0898302/III/2> in which X is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, cycloalkyl or unsubstituted or substituted, preferably chlorinated, aryl group, and Y is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or unsubstituted or substituted, preferably chlorinated, aryl group, or in which X and Y together with the nitrogen atom may form a heterocyclic ring. Specified triamides are the methylamide-, n-butylamide-, piperidide-, diethylamide-, diisobutylamide-, cyclohexylamide-, anilide-, N-methylanilide-, N-ethylanilide-, N-benzylanilide-, p-chloranilide-, (2-chloro-N-methylanilide)-, (p-chloro-N-ethyl-anilide)-, (2:4-dichloranilide)-, diphenylamide- and tetrahydroquinolide-diamides of phosphoric acid, the n-butylamide-and diethylamide-diamides of thiophosphoric acid and phosphoric acid and thiophosphoric acid triamides. The pigment composition may also contain thickeners such as alginates, cellulose ethers, tragacanth, starch or benzine emulsions, plasticizers, dressing agents, drying and non-drying oils and non-reactive polymers such as rubber and polymers of butadiene, acrylonitrile, acrylamide, styrene, acrylic esters, vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, vinyl acetate, or vinyl isobutyl ether. Specified pigments are carbon black, ultramarine, titanium dioxide, zinc sulphide, phthalocyanines, azo dyestuffs and vat dyestuffs.ALSO:A pigment composition for application to fibrous materials or films contains as a pigment fixing agent a mixture of a polymer containing carboxyl and/or hydroxyl groups and a phosphoric or thiophosphoric acid triamide of the formula <FORM:0898302/IV (a)/1> in which Z represents an oxygen or sulphur atom and R represents a group of the formula <FORM:0898302/IV (a)/2> in which X is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, cycloalkyl or unsubstituted or substituted, preferably chlorinated, aryl group and Y is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or unsubstituted or substituted, preferably chlorinated, aryl group, or in which X and Y together with the nitrogen atom may form a heterocyclic ring. Specified polymers are polyhydric alcohol-polycarboxylic acid condensation products containing free carboxylic or hydroxyl groups, polymers of acrylic, crotonic or maleic acids or their copolymers with vinyl acetate, acrylic esters, styrene, butadiene, vinyl isobutyl ether, acrylonitrile, vinyl chloride or vinylidene chloride; polyvinyl alcohol and reaction products thereof with formaldehyde, acetaldehyde or benzaldehyde; and partially hydrolyzed polyvinyl acetate. Specified triamides are the methylamide-, n-butylamide-, piperidide-, diethylamide-, diisobutylamide-, cyclohexylamide-, anilide-, N-methylanilide-, N-ethylanilide-, N-benzylanilide-, p-chloranilide-, (2-chloro-N-methylanilide)-, (p-chloro-N-ethyl-anilide)-, (2:4-dichloranilide)-, diphenylamide- and tetrahydroquinolide-diamides of phosphoric acid, the n-butylamide-and diethylamide-diamides of thiophosphoric acid and phosphoric acid and thiophosphoric acid triamides. The pigment composition may also contain thickeners such as alginates, cellulose ethers, tragacanth, starch or benzine emulsions, plasticizers, dressing agents, drying and non-drying oils and non-reactive polymers such as rubber and polymers of butadiene, acrylonitrile, acrylamide, styrene, acrylic esters, vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, vinyl acetate, or vinyl isobutyl ether. Specified pigments are carbon black, ultramarine, titanium dioxide, zinc sulphide, phthalocyanines, azo dyestuffs and vat dyestuffs.ALSO:Pigments are fixed on fibrous materials or other flat structures by applying them together with a compound of high molecular weight containing carboxyl and/or hydroxyl groups and a phosphoric or thiophosphoric acid triamide of the formula <FORM:0898302/IV (c)/1> in which Z represents an oxygen or sulphur atom and R represents a group of the formula <FORM:0898302/IV (c)/2> in which X is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, cycloalkyl or unsubstituted or substituted, preferably chlorinated, aryl group, and Y is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, or unsubstituted or substituted, preferably chlorinated, aryl group, or in which X and Y together with the nitrogen atom may form a heterocyclic ring, and finally heating or steaming. The pigment compositions may be applied by printing, spraying, painting or padding methods to paper, leather, feathers, natural or regenerated cellulose fibres, acetate rayon, animal fibres, polyamide, polyester, polyacrylonitrile or polyvinyl chloride fibres, glass or asbestos fibres, artificial leather and foils of all kinds. Specified high molecular weight compounds are shellac, alginic acid, polyhydric alcohol-polycarboxylic acid condensation products containing free carboxylic or hydroxyl groups, polymers of acrylic, crotonic or maleic acids, or their copolymers with vinyl acetate, acrylic esters, styrene, butadiene, vinyl isobutyl ether, acrylonitrile, vinyl chloride or vinylidene chloride; polyvinyl alcohol and reaction products thereof with formaldehyde, acetaldehyde or benzaldehyde; partially hydrolysed polyvinyl acetate; methyl- and ethylcellulose. Specified triamides are the methylamide-, n-butylamide-, piperidide-, diethylamide-, diisobutylamide-, cyclohexylamide-, anilide-, N-methylanilide-, N-ethylanilide-, N-benzylanilide-, p-chloranilide-, (2-chloro-N-mechylanilide)-, (p-, chloro-N-ethyl-anilide)-, (2 : 4-dichloroanilide)-diphenylamide- and tetrahydroquinolide - di - amides of phosphoric acid, the n-butylamide-and diethylamide-diamides of thiophosphoric acid and phosphoric acid and thiophosphoric acid triamides. The pigment compositions may also contain thickeners such as alginates, cellulose ethers, tragacanth, starch or benzine emulsions, plasticisers, dressing agents, drying and nondrying oils and non-reactive polymers such as rubber and polymers of butadiene, acrylonitrile, acrylamide, styrene, acrylic esters, vinyl chloride vinylidene chloride, vinyl acetate or binyl isobutyl ether. Specified pigments are carbon black, ultramarine, titanium dioxide, zinc sulphide, phthalocyanines, azo dyestuffs and vat dyestuffs. Examples of printing and padding are given.
