Abstract

897,951. Supporting pipes. BURNDY CORPORATION. July 15, 1960 [July 21, 1959], No. 24662/60. Class 99(2). [Also in Group XXXVI] A trough for cables or pipes comprises a pair of side rails 24 and a ribbed bottom tray 10, the latter having alternating ridges 12 and grooves 14 and the grooves being slotted 22. The lower edge of the side walls may be turned in to form a supporting lip 26 to which the tray 10 is spot welded at 40 and may be stiffened by ribs such as 30 and folding over the upper edge 32. Lengths of trough may be joined together by interlocking hinge-type jointing members 44 and 46 secured by pins 56. Instead of the tray 10 being continuous it may be formed by strips of metal of ridge and groove cross-section, spaced apart like the rungs of a ladder, Fig. 15 (not shown). Various arrangements for curves, cross-pieces and reducing are described and a cover may be provided. The trough may be supported by hangers, or by a cantilevered bracket with an upstanding lip which engages with one of the side walls of the trough, Fig. 5 (not shown). Cables may be secured to the bottom tray by pieces of wire or by clips engaging with the slots in the bottom tray.
