Abstract
897,427. Making washing-boilers. MORLEY PRODUCTS (PADIHAM) Ltd. Oct. 19, 1959 [Oct. 17, 1958], No. 33164/58. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XIII] A length of sheet steel is bent to form the case 10 of a washing- boiler, one end of the sheet being bent to form a portion 14, Fig. 3, overlapping the other end to facilitate spot-welding and being bent to form an inward rib 16. A sheet steel heat baffle 22, Fig. 7, spaced between the case 10 and the water tank 18, Fig. 2, for use if the boiler is gas-heated, is corrugated at its lower edge at four diametrically-opposed places 40, for tapering and strengthening and has a flange or flanges 24 secured by split-pin or rivet to the case-rib 16. Various forms of the rib 16 and the flanges 24 and methods of joining them are described, Figs. 4-6 (not shown); e.g. the flanges 24 of the heat baffle 22 may be spot-welded or riveted together at their top and bottom, Fig. 7, but spaced apart between the ends to form a slot S to receive a tongue 28, Figs. 2, 3, on the rib 16 of the case 10. To hold the baffle 22 in position a sheet of metal 42, Fig. 2, is riveted to the baffle at the front of the boiler, i.e. diametrically opposite the rib 16 at the rear. The sheet 42 is shaped to form a condensate tray 46 at the bottom and has two holes 43 to fit over portions of an outlet tap 20 which carries an abutment 44 for locating the baffle. The Provisional Specification describes also the baffle-flanges secured to the case-rib by a screw.
