[Also in Group XX and XXXVI] A support assembly for a continuous flexible; filamentary heat detector e.g. an aircraft fire detector (but which may also be used for electric conductors, flexible tubing, control wires or other flexible filamentary members) comprises a flanged bracket 30 having a tubular portion 32 in which a bushing 40 is accommodated, the bushing being of p.t.f.e. or material having approximately the same coefficient of sliding friction and having one or more bores 46 through each of which a filamentary detector 50 may be threaded. The bushing may have a tapered extension 45 at each end to dampen vibrations in the filament 50 and if there are several bores each may be provided with such an extension, Fig. 10 (not shown). A complete detector installation, Fig. 2 (not shown), comprises a number of supports spaced along the path to be taken by a flexible tubular sensing element, the spacing and orientation at bends being facilitated by the use of a triangular template graduated in terms of bend radius and dimensioned according to the stiffness of the sensing element material (see Group XX). A draw-wire is then crimped into the end of the tubular element and the latter is drawn through the bushings into position and secured there by securing the free end of the draw-wire to an adjacent bracket. Alternative methods of attaching the draw-wire are described.
