Abstract

The penta alkali metal salts of paromomycin penta-(N-methane sulphonic acid) are prepared by reacting paromomycin with an alkali metal salt of hydroxymethane sulphonic acid. The reaction is carried out in water or an aqueous lower alkanol solvent, e.g. aqueous ethanol or aqueous methanol at room temperature. The reactants may be hydrated or in the anhydrous form and the products are isolated by lyophilisation or precipitation with a lower alkanol. Specified salts are the penta-sodium or pentapotassium salts of paromomycin penta-(N-methane sulphonic acid). Specification 797,568 is referred to.
