Abstract

896,764. Engine stop-gear. PORSCHE, F. Feb. 25, 1960 [March 17, 1959], No. 6620/60. Class 122 (4). [Also in Group XXVII] The control-rod 10 of a fuel injection pump has connected to one end the governor 2 and to the other end means for moving the rod manually or automatically to fuel cut-off position to stop the engine, the automatic means being rendered operative by an electromagnet 16. The fuel cut-off means comprises a spring-loaded piston 12, normally held inoperative by an electromagnetically-operated catch 18, through which passes a manually-operated rod 22 connected to a control-lever 28 moving in a slot 30 in a rotatable sleeve 31. For starting lever 28 is first moved in direction X<SP>1</SP>, which rotates sleeve 31 to cause lever 32 thereon to set the governor load spring 33 to the starting value, and then in direction Y<SP>1</SP> which moves rod 22 to the right to permit the control-rod 10 to move to its starting position. After starting lever 28 is moved back in the plane Y-Y<SP>1</SP> to its normal position and then moved back in the plane X-X<SP>1</SP> to set spring 33 to any desired speed setting. To stop the engine manually, lever 28 is moved in the direction Y, causing rod 22 to move to the left and force control-rod 10 to cut-off position. The circuit of the solenoid 16 contains switches 38 . . . 35<SP>111</SP> responsive respectively to engine temperature, lubricating oil temperature and pressure and fuel quantity. Closing of any of the switches 38 . . . 38<SP>111</SP> causes automatic stopping of the engine by withdrawal of the catch 18 permitting the spring-loaded piston 12 to move the rod 10 to cut-off position. The engine may also be stopped automatically by a time-switch 37 and a remotely-operated switch 43 in the circuit of solenoid 16.
