Abstract
896,722. Air curtains. BAHCO A.B. Jan. 12, 1961, No. 1348/6 Class 137. An air curtain is formed in front of an opening such as a door between an inlet 4 provided with adjustable guide vanes 5 located along the upper edge 1 of the door opening and a suction chamber 7 located in the floor 2 provided with a grid 6. A duct 8 provided with a fan or fans (not shown) and a heating means 9 connects the suction chamber 7 with an inlet space 3 containing the inlet 4. Temperature sensitive means such as 10 and 11 actuate a relay device 14 which drives a motor 16, which in turn, controls the adjustment of the vanes 5. Should the air pressure at the outside of the air curtain of warm air rise, due say to an increase in wind pressure, the air curtain will be bent inwards and the outer temperature sensitive means 10 will be exposed to air at a lower temperature. The relay 14 is then actuated due to the temperature difference between the temperature sensitive means 10 and 11 and consequently the vanes 5 adjust the direction of flow of the air curtain until both temperature sensitive means lie within the air curtain width at their level. In three other embodiments, one of which is shown in Fig. 5, the width of the suction chamber 7 at right angles to the door is greater than that of the air curtain meeting the floor 2. As a result of this, any room air which is entrained and ejected at the inside of the air curtain and which could cause a draught along the floor 2 of the room, is also drawn into the suction chamber 7. A vent 17 with a regulating valve 18 is therefore provided in the duct 8 on the pressure side of the fan or fans, so that the volume of air passing through the inlet 4 does not fluctuate in quantity. Alternatively a separate fan can be used to exhaust the room air through a separate duct. The quantity of injected air may also be varied with the control of the vanes 5.
