Abstract

896,173. Drying apparatus. PETRIE & MCNAUGHT Ltd. Dec. 8, 1960 [Dec. 15, 1959], No. 42654/59. Class 34(2) Apparatus for drying materials in powder or granular form comprises two or more drying sections through which the material being dried passes in succession in a fluidized form, with adjustable weirs over which the material flows from each section, each section having independently controlled air heating and circulating means. The material is supported in separate drying sections 1, 2, Fig. 1, above inclined perforated plates 7, 12 in a fluidized manner by hot air introduced from below the sections from ducts 17, which air is heated in separate furnaces 19, Fig. 3. Each furnace comprises a horizontal combustion chamber having at one end an oil burner 22 surrounded by adjacent air inlet openings and a fan 23 which draws air therethrough for passage to the section. A cooling section 3 is provided after the drying sections which is supplied with air from a fan 29 driven by a motor 30. The material is contained within the separate sections by adjustable weirs 9, 13, 15 over which the material can flow.
