A relay which is retained in its operated condition by permanent magnetism and reset by energization of a release winding to oppose the permanent magnetism has a rotatable armature in overlapping relation with polepieces in an axial opening in the windings. As shown, magnetic casing 10 engages one pole of a cylindrical permanent magnet 28 which is surrounded by a non-magnetic ring 30 and has its other pole in engagement with a polepiece 14 extending into one end of a bobbin 18 carrying operating and resetting coils 20, 22. A polepiece 16, having a flange extending to the casing 10, also extends into the bobbin 18 with a gap 34 between it and the polepiece 14. The polepieces 14, 16 are slotted to form pole ends 36, 38, 40, 42 with side faces 43 for engagement with the armature 44 mounted on a spindle 46. This spindle carries a nylon actuator 88, reinforced by a plate 90 and having a slot 87 in which a movable contact-spring 85 is engaged. The spring 85 is carried on a terminal pin 80 and biased to engage a fixed contact 84 and maintain the armature 44 against the brass screws 58 which secure the polepieces 14, 16 against each end of a brass spacing cylinder 56. When the coil 20 is energized, the armature 44 is moved to engage the faces 43 and the spring 85 is moved to engage a second fixed contact 83. A discshaped weight 92 held frictionally against the contact actuator 88 by a spring 98 acts to prevent contact bounce in both directions. The magnet 28 retains the armature against the polepieces when the coil 20 is de-energized and its release is effected by energization of the coil 22. The contacts and coil terminations are mounted on pins 77 . . . 82 on glass beads in a metal base 66 which is sealed to the casing 10 and carries a bridge 76 supporting the polepiece 16. The relay may have six contact sets with their springs engaging in slots such as 87 spaced around the periphery of the actuator 88 and one set of contacts may be arranged to change-over the coil connections.
