Abstract

894,817. Bobbins. BIRMINGHAM ALUMINIUM CASTING (1903) CO. Ltd. Oct. 26, 1960 [Oct. 30, 1959], No. 36850/59. Class 120(3) A bobbin or reel has a barrel drawn or spun as a shaped but smooth metal sleeve which is provided with a shaped former c at one end which forms a finger grip portion, the former c being provided with means h to prevent its rotation relative to the sleeve a and means i to prevent its rotation relative to a mandrel supporting the former c while the end part f of the sleeve a is spun or rolled on to it to shape the finger grip portion. To hold the former c in the aluminium sleeve a parts of the end part f are forced into radial recesses h, Fig. 4, provided in the former c. During the metal spinning operation a key on the mandrel engages a slot i in the former. A bore d forms the upper bearing of the bobbin. An identification disc may be inserted in a recess j. A disc b forms the bottom flange of the bobbin and is substantially as described in Specification 677,430.
