Coin-testing mechanism including a clearing wall 5 and devices for testing the weight, diameter and annulus thickness and the magnetic and rebound properties of a coin, as described in Specifications 894,579 and 894,580, has the means for pivoting the clearing wall connected to devices for clearing coins trapped by the coin balance' lever and the annulus test mechanism. The coin balance lever 27 carries a pair of feelers 36, 37, one pivoted and one fixed, and as the balance lever lowers under the weight of a coin, the pivoted feeler 37 engages the conical head of an adjustable stud 42 and, if the coin is too thick, is unable to close sufficiently to allow the balance lever to pass the stud. If the coin is not underweight and is passed by the annulus test, the coin balance descends to a lowermost position in which the coin falls out to coin-freeing mechanism but, if the coin is underweight, the balance descends to an intermediate position where the coin is released to a reject shoot 23 or may descend only to a position short of the intermediate position and trap the coin. When a button 8 is pressed to cause a roller 11 to engage a cam surface on the clearing wall 5 to pivot it away from the base-plate 1, a lever 49 is also pivoted and engages a pin 51 on a lever 50 carrying the stud 42 so that the stud is moved to a position in which it can no longer impede movement of the coin balance. A lever 45 is also pivoted and the edge of a slot 47 pressing on a spindle 48 on the coin balance lowers the balance to reject the trapped coin to the shoot 23, this movement being limited by the spindle 48 engaging the end of the slot 47.
