Abstract

Graphite fibres are produced by heating natural or regenerated cellulose fibres at a rate of heating of 10 DEG -100 DEG C. per hour up to 100 DEG C., at a rate of heating of 10 DEG -50 DEG C. per hour between 100 DEG and 300 DEG C., at a rate of heating of 10 DEG -55 DEG C. per hour between 300 DEG and 400 DEG C., at a rate of heating of 10 DEG -100 DEG C. per hour between 400 DEG and 900 DEG C., and at a rate of heating of 1000 DEG -3000 DEG C. per hour between 900 DEG C. and graphitizing temperature. Heating above 900 DEG C. may be effected in an atmosphere of nitrogen. The cellulose fibres may be woven or wound on a cylinder or plate.
