Abstract
893,661. Taking up slack in cable or hose connections to moving machine parts. RUSHWORTH, D. Dec. 23, 1960 [Sept. 23, 1959], No. 32311/59. Class 78 (2). A slide C movable relative to a part A is connected to the latter by a cable B which passes over a drum E. The cable B is supported from sagging by means of a steel band D which also extends between C and A over the drum E and has an arcuate shape in cross-section (Fig. 4, not shown). The drum E has members F, G to retain the cable B and band D in position and flanges of the drum, or the axle of the drum, run on rails. In Fig. 5, the cable B passes from C to a pulley system loaded by a weight L to take up the slack on relative movement between C and A. The cable is prevented from sagging by a band M which extends from the member C into a drum N which is carried on the same mounting as the pulleys J, K. In the modification of the latter construction shown in Fig. 6, the drum N is carried by the member C and the band M is connected to an arm forming a support for a pulley O over which the cable B passes to the member A. The pulley O is mounted to run on guides (not shown) and is connected at R with a self-winding reel (not shown), The cable B may alternatively be disposed between two strips M. The strip M may be preset into a coil of involute shape so that it exerts an upward thrust as it emerges from the drum N. The strip M may be disposed with its width lying in a vertical plane.
