Abstract
893,505. Electron multipliers. HARSHAW CHEMICAL CO. March 28, 1960 [April 2, 1959], No. 10830/60. Class 39(1) [Also in Group XL(b)] A photomultiplier is in contact with a scintillation crystal having a reflective coating on all surfaces of the crystal not in contact with the photomultiplier and some way up the sides of the photomultiplier. The reflective coating 4 extends round a sodium iodide/thallium crystal 1 and a distance along the sides of a photomultiplier 2 to prevent the escape of light from the edges of the front face 8 of the photomultiplier. There may be a plurality of photomultipliers, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown). The crystal surfaces are roughened and the coating may be of aluminium foil, aluminium, magnesium or titanium oxides or a hydrate formed by wetting the crystal and baking in vacuo.
