A device for checking the relative positions of surfaces 21, 22 of bodies of revolution is characterized in that one surface 21 slidably rests on supports 2 while the other surface 22 is scanned by two feelers 3, 4, pivoted at fixed points 5, 6, and having lever arms 7, 8 which act upon the ends of a beam 9 so arranged that when the feelers 3, 4 are in their mid positions, the longitudinal axis of the beam 9 lies upon the line joining the points 5, 6, and a measuring instrument 11 touches the beam 9 at a point 24 which remains at rest when the feelers contact a surface coaxial with the surface 22 but of a different size. The device is used for checking a ring 1 having surfaces 21, 22 by revolving the ring 1 and noting the maximum deflections in either direction of the pointer of the dial gauge 11. These will occur when the centres of the surfaces 21, 22 are parallel with the tips of the feelers 3, 4. A second dial gauge 15, the reading of which may be adjusted by a screw 16, is used for indicating variations in diameter of the inner surface. Another embodiment is also described in which the inner surface is fixed and the position of the outer one measured.
