Abstract
892,661. Oil-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Sept. 8, 1960 [Sept. 9, 1959], No. 30940/60. Class 38 (5). In an oil-blast switch a pressure-generating chamber 9 communicates with an annular pressure-accumulating chamber 12 through a fixed nozzle contact 3, a non-return valve 4 and openings 10, 11 in the wall of a tubular housing 2. A slot 14 is formed between the lower end of the housing 2 and the bottom of the arc extinguishing chamber 1. When the switch is opened, the pressure generated by the arc drawn in the chamber 9 opens the valve 4 so that the pressure in the chamber 12 is increased. The pressure in the chamber 9 rapidly decreases as the current approaches zero so that the valve 4 closes and the pressure in the chamber 12 forces the oil below the chamber 12 through the slot 14 against the arc. Openings 6 and 13 in the valve 4 and the chamber 1 enable the oil level to be restored after the arc has been extinguished.
