Abstract
892,603. Winch drums for nuclear reactors. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Feb. 9, 1960 [March 9, 1959], No. 8018/59. Class 78 (5). [Also in Group XL (a)] An ion chamber is suspended in a nuclear reactor for indicating the intensity of neutron flux, at the end of cable 75, the cable being wound up and down by winch drum 43. The cable passes round pulleys 81, 80 and then round pulley 74c and round guide rollers 74 so as to be led tangentially on to the drum. Pulley 74c and rollers 74 are carried by nut 73 which traverses threaded shaft driven from the drum 43 (via gearing 66, 68, 67) so as to lay the cable in successive grooves 44 on the drum. The ion chamber is connected to a recording instrument, the connection passing via plug 76 on drum 43, coiled spring connection 91, leads 93, 94, 95, and external socket 34.
