Abstract
892,491. Arm and hand supports. BASSO, R. Dec. 9, 1958, No. 39581/58. Class 81 (2). A finger support comprises a digital guide blank having spaced partitions 3, the opposing surfaces of each pair of adjacent partitions forming lateral supports for a finger. The guide blank has a rounded end member 6 for supporting the thumb and is connected to a forearm support 7. The guide blank and the end member are covered in plaster which is shaped to the patient's fingers. An elongated metal plate 1 is cut to form T-shaped portions 3 and linking core portions 4. The T-shaped portions are each folded through 180 degrees along axes 3<SP>1</SP> to form L-shaped partitions 3 and the core portions are folded at 90 degrees to the L-shaped partitions and bent to form a tubular support 4. Alternatively, partitions are welded perpendicularly to a tubular support. A removable rod 5 having a holder 51 and a sharpened free end 5<SP>11</SP> is passed through the tubular support and a cork or paper thumb guide 6 is pinned on the free end. The guide blank so formed is covered with plaster and is grasped by the patient to mould the plaster between the partitions to the shape of his fingers. The plaster-covered digital guide is secured to a felt-lined plaster fore-arm support 7 which is secured on the patient's arm by an elastic band 8. The fore-arm support may be articulated to a hand supporting portion and may also be adjustably articulated to a sleeve for surrounding the upper part of the arm.
