Abstract
892,043. Carrying liquefied gas cargo. CORY & SON Ltd., Wm. March 31, 1958 [April 5, 1957], No. 11126/57. Class 113. In a marine tanker for the bulk transport in the liquid state at low temperature of methane (or like ordinarily-gaseous substance), the cargo tanks comprise a plurality of main tanks 18-23 in a closely-spaced row along the fore-and-aft centre line of the ship, which main tanks are of circular cross-section in plan and extend at their widest parts for substantially the full width of the ship, together with small wing tanks 33 in the spaces between the main tanks toward the sides of the ship, the wing tanks being wholly below the main deck 24 while the main tanks have portions of reduced diameter, such as 28-31, which extend into a longitudinallyextending turret structure 26 above the main deck. The tops of the main tanks have narrow necks 27 reaching up through the turret deck 25, and each tank is ordinarily kept topped up to a level within the neck. Ballast or oil cargo tanks (not shown) are disposed in the turret between said portions of the main cargo tanks 18 and 23 are of less diameter than the other main cargo tanks and have disposed around them deep tanks 82 and 83 respectively for oil cargo or water ballast.
