Abstract
Highly purified silicon is produced by decomposing silane or reacting silicon tetrachloride with hydrogen in a zone of reduced pressure in a high frequency electrical discharge produced between the plates of an external condenser. The outer plate of a cylindrical condenser may contain a heater and the inner plate a cooling coil (see Group XL(a)). Other elements mentioned which may be produced by a similar process are Ge, As, Sb, Se, Te, Pb and Bi.
