890,493. Rectifying; transformers. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 2, 1958 [June 4, 1957], No. 17742/57. Class 38 (2). [Also in Group XXXVII] An electric traction equipment comprises motors M1, M2 series-connected and both supplied from a pair of rectifier systems connected through contacts C1 and C2 and contacts la, 16. . . 3a, 3b, to tappings on a transformer winding so that one rectifier system may be disconnected independently of the other to enable tap changing to be made. Contacts 4a to 6b connected to mid-point tappings on the transformer allow the mid-point of the motors to be maintained at the mid-point of the transformer secondary during tap changing. The rectifiers may be mercury arc rectifiers. The rectifiers include contacts C3 to C10 in series with the rectifier elements to enable either transformer to be isolated in the event of a fault. As an alternative embodiment these switches may be utilized instead of switches C1, C2, to disconnect one or other rectifier system from the supply.
