[Also in Group XIX] A meter for measuring the depression of railway sleepers under load of passing railway stock comprises a double-armed lever 13 pivotally mounted on a base 12 and having one end 13a formed for location beneath a rail adjacent a sleeper. When end 13a is depressed the other end 13b, which has a scale 14 on an arcuate flange 13c, is moved relative to an adjustable arm 18 having an arcuate flange 20 which acts as a pointer to indicate the amount of deflection.
