[Also in Group XIX] A paint colorant dispensing device comprises an array of supply vessel 10a . .10k each having a gear pump 24, Fig. 3, connected thereto which delivers a fixed amount of liquid for a predetermined angular rotation of its drive shaft 29, means for rotating the pump drive shafts, in unison, and flexible delivery conduits 53a..53k for the pumps which normally deliver back to their respective supply vessels to agitate the paint, the conduits being movable to deliver into a centrally placed receiving vessel 90. The containers 10a..10k contain various colorants for mixing with paint of a base colour in a container 90 positioned at the centre of the ring of containers. The pump drive shafts are all driven simultaneously by a chain 60 which runs around an adjustable idler 61 and is driven by an electric motor 152, Fig. 2, through a sprocket 62, the shaft 63 of which also carries a star wheel 72 actuating a reciprocating slide 95 carrying a pawl 107 which moves a toothed wheel 97 step by step. The sprocket 62, pump drive sprockets 47a..47k, and star wheel 72 are so arranged that each operation of slide 95 by a tooth on the star wheel 72 corresponds to, the delivery of a predetermined amount of colorant e.g. 1/32 fluid oz., by each pump. The pumps 24, Fig. 3, normally deliver through a flexible outlet pipe 53 back into their own containers 10, the ends of the pipes 53 being held in place by magnetised discs 57. To deliver a given amount of a specific colorant from one container, e.g. 10a, to a paint can 90, Fig. 2, the appropriate delivery pipe 53 is placed to deliver into the can 90 and a graduated disc 129 on the shaft of wheel 97 is turned anticlockwise until the appropriate quantity graduation 130 is opposite a fixed index mark 131. The electric motor 152 is then set into operation to drive all the pumps 24, the wheel 97 being moved back one step by each tooth of the star wheel 72. When the zero graduation of wheel 129 reaches index mark 131, indicating that the predetermined quantity of colorant has been delivered from the selected container, a cam 98 on the wheel 97 breaks a micro-switch 99 to break the motor circuit and stop the pumps 24.
