Classes 39(2) and 75(4) A vehicle headlamp comprises a housing, a two-filament bulb, a reflector arranged so that the axis of the light beam is directed obliquely downwards and to one side and a screen arranged between the reflector and the lens of the lamp and consisting of a cup-shaped portion 12, Fig. 3, overlying the end of the bulb, two sectors 13a, 13b extending at opposite sides of the cup in a plane at right angles to the reflector surface and a further upwardly directed sector 14 at right angles to the plane of the sectors 13a, 13b. The bulb 5, Fig. 4, has a main filament 7 and a dim filament 8 in front of this and provided with a masking shield 9 below it having an upwardly directed portion 10 in front of it. When the filament 8 is in use, the cup 12 prevents light rays other than reflected rays from emerging in the direction of travel, the sectors 13a, 13b prevent rays from reaching the lower part of the reflector and the sector 14 defines the outline of the beam on the side to which the beam is directed. The housing is closed by a lens held in place by a clamping ring which also serves to secure the screen in place by means of projections 15 on the ends of the sectors 13a,13b. The reflector is inclined downwards at a small angle, e.g. 5 degrees, and the housing is turned about a horizontal axis so that the screen is tilted and the axis of the beam of light is directed towards one side.
