Abstract
889,248. Hydraulic actuation of switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Nov. 20, 1959 [Nov. 22, 1958; Dec. 18, 1958], No. 39387/59. Class 38 (5). The actuating spring 12 of a high-voltage switch is stressed by means of a piston 17 connected through a pipe 7 to an assembly comprising a liquid container 1, a valve housing 4 and a pump 2 driven by a motor 10 supplied through a control switch 8. Movement of a member 18 releases an arm 11, which is rotated anti-clockwise by the spring 12 to close the switch and to release a locking member 13 from engagement with the piston rod, movement of the member 13 thereby closing contacts 14. This closure operates the switch 8 which is held closed by its contact d to start the pump 2, the resulting liquid flow from the container 1 depressing a valve 3 against the housing 4 and then passing through a spring-loaded ball valve into the pipe 7 and the cylinder 15. The piston is thus lifted to restore the arm 11, the switch 8 being held closed upon release of the member 13 by a pressure switch 6 until members 11, 12 are fully reset, after which the system pressure rises to open the switch 6 and stop the pump 2. Restoration of the piston 17 by a spring 16 reengages the member 13 and forces liquid back into the container 1, a valve 9 serving to release excess system pressure. In a modification, Fig. 4, the arm 11 is connected to an extension of the member 13 by a spring 21, member 13 being rotated anti-clockwise from engagement with the piston projection 19 by downward movement of the arm 11, which is restored by an arm 20 secured to the piston 17. If, however, downward movement of the arm 11 occurs when the piston 17 is under downward liquid pressure caused by operation of the piston associated with another switch, the projection 19 prevents release of the member 13 by the spring 21 until such an operation is completed, thus ensuring that the pump 2 is not overloaded,
