A machine for decorating cakes and the like with lines of icing sugar comprises a syringe 37 which slides on a guide, e.g. bars 12, carried on a slide slidable on a second guide, e.g. rails 19 perpendicular to the first and mounted above a platform 10 with a rotatable cake support 23. As shown, blocks 30, 31 slide on rails 19 and carry the ends of bars 12. Block 31 is located on its rail 19 by a groove 32 and is held by a plate 33 so as to pivot about rail 19 and slide thereon between stops 52 while block 30 just rests on its rail 19. The syringe 37 is clamped in a hole 17 in block 11 which is moved along bars 12 by rotating a handle 16 connected to a screw 13 engaging a nut 14, e.g. a half nut held by screw 15 on the slide. Table 23 is rotated by lever 24, e.g. through bevel gears, and the cake base board 26 is secured to the table by spring clamps 27. The syringe piston-rod is threaded into a hole in the top of the syringe and an adaptor may be provided for use with a larger syringe. A template may be provided having a hole or groove in which a pin on the slide 11 engages. For decorating the side of the cake, a cake mounting plate 48 may be secured by a screw and nut to a plate 47 hinged to a plate 45 secured to or resting on table 23. Plate 47 is held vertical by a detachable strut 51. An adjustable strut 50 takes some of the weight of the cake. The Provisional Specification describes also a single guide at one side of a platform supporting a second guide carrying the nozzle as shown.
