Abstract

888,984. Firearms. OLIN MATHIESON CHEMICAL CORPORATION. Nov. 17, 1960, No. 39557/60. Class 119. Relates to gas operated firearms in which a slide actuated by a gas piston is connected to and operates a reciprocating bolt assembly. According to the invention the receiver 13, Fig. 2, is formed with laterally spaced depending side walls 16, 14 which are vertically spaced from guide rails 46, 47, Figs. 2, 4, forming part of a trigger guard assembly so as to provide sliding clearance for the slide arms 27, 28, Figs. 2, 3, of the slide, the respective slide arm and guide rail on each side being co-planar with the corresponding depending side wall as shown in Fig. 2. The rear end of the receiver is mounted upon a boss 17, Fig. 1 (not shown), formed integral with a recoil block 18 secured to the stock 10 by means of a screw 19. The slide is formed with inturned ear portions 29, 31, Fig. 3, formed with apertures 34, 36 adapted to receive a pin which passes through a slot in the bolt assembly. The front ends of the slide arms are connected to a driving block 37 actuated by a gas piston (not shown). The rear end of the trigger guard is secured by a screw to the recoil block while its forward end is connected to the receiver 13 by means of a T-shaped key 43 which engages a mating slot in the receiver. The trigger guard assembly is also provided with a second pair of spaced guide rails 45, 50 which are straddled by the ears 29, 31 of the slide and prevent relative lateral movement of the slide and guide rails. A finger piece 38 is provided on the slide so that it may be actuated manually.
