Abstract
887,860. Air-break switches; switches, partly electromagnetic. ETABLISSEMENTS MERLIN & GERIN. Nov. 17, 1959 [Dec. 23, 1958], No. 38910/59. Class 38 (5). The moving contact p of a circuit-breaker is pressed against the fixed contact P by the electrodynamic repulsion between conductors L 1 , L 2 and a conductor l, and by the attraction between the conductors L, l. Further conductors may be provided to increase these effects by adding one or more turns to the conductors L 1 , L 2 before joining them to conductor L, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the coil so formed serving also as a magnetic blow-out. The arrangement of Figs. 1 and 2 is provided in Figs. 5 and 6 by fixed shells 1 each having a jaw 2 secured to a central piece 6 by rivets 7 . . . 10, the last three having insulating sleeves and washers which, with slits 3, 4, 5, cause current to flow through each jaw 2 from the point P to the rivet 7 in the path shown. The current path through the member 6 to clamping members 11 is produced by slits 15, 16 in the member 6 and by insulating the rivets 12, 13 which, with rivet 14, secure the members 6, 11. The moving contact 17 is insulated at 19 from a pivoted lever 18 so that current flows from the contact points p to the rivet 20 as shown. Anti-clockwise rotation of interrupting levers 23 moves the lever 18 to close contacts 1, 17, compresses a spring 22 to secure contact pressure and engages the levers 23 with main contacts 24. During opening the arcs at points P, p are driven inwardly and the arc gases are expelled through a space 25 between the shells 1. In a modification, Figs. 7 and 8, fixed contacts 30 are secured to a shaft 31 carried by members 32 and are movable between stops 36, 37 against a spring 33 acting on their lower ends through a rod 34 and a fork 35. The desired current paths are produced by slits 27, 28, 29 in the movable contact 26, by the combined U and Z shape of the contacts 30, and by a slit 38 in each member 32, the slits 27 . . . 29 being filled with insulating material if necessary. The arrangement shown in Figs. 7 and 8 may replace the main contacts 23, 24 shown in Figs. 5 and 6.
