Abstract

886,834. Attaching bail handles. WILKIE & PAUL Ltd. Jan. 5, 1960 [Feb. 27, 1959], No. 6814/59. Class 83 (2). A method of attaching a bail to a canister comprises forming a re-entrant in the wall of the canister at two opposite points or at corresponding points in a blank which will be formed into a canister, inserting into each a bail mounting attachment and deforming the attachment or the canister to prevent separation. A cavity wherein the mouth 13 is smaller in circumference than the base 14 is formed with a central dish 15 and a bail mounting which has a bead 18 and an aperture 20 for the bail is placed in the cavity. The mounting which may be made of thermo-plastic material melts at a lower temperature than the canister and is heated to cause it to flow as shown in Fig. 4. Alternatively or additionally the lip 13 may be pressed into contact with the base of the mounting. In a modification (Figs. 7 and 8) the cavity has no central dish and the bail mounting comprises a peg 22.
