A ring-carrier insert 1 for a light metal piston 4 having on one side only a continuous flange 2 inclining inwardly towards the axis of the insert has a plurality of axial holes 3 therethrough which are filled with light metal 6 when the piston is cast around the insert. The insert may be of austenitic iron or steel. Specification 581,527 is referred to.
