Abstract
885,770. Feeding record tapes. GENERAL PRECISION Inc. Oct. 18, 1960 [Oct. 22, 1959], No. 35646/60. Class 40 (2). [Also in Group XVI] A sprocketed endless record tape T is fed by a sprocket and pinch-roller 24, 25 into a random edgewise store 12 past a point of inflection 65a where it follows the smooth curve of a guide wall 50 to a discontinuity 64. Further tape entering causes the formation of a further loop at the point of inflection, Figs. 5, 6, 7, which displaces and supplants the loop previously formed along the guide wall 50. The base 18 is tilted at some 4 degrees to the horizontal and gravity, assisted by machine vibrations, collects the loops into adjacent folds 68. Guides 76, 78 prevent loops emerging from the tape exit 22. The tape passes two sets of transducers 34, 40 with tape cleaning brushes 36,44. The magazine may be interchangeably detached from the machine.
