Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0885578/IV (b)/1> (wherein R is hydrogen or an aryl radical which may be substituted by dialkylamino or alkoxy groups, R1 is an alkyl radical and R2 is hydrogen or an alkyl radical) and their preparation by heating a compound of the formula <FORM:0885578/IV (b)/2> (wherein R6 is -NH2 or -NHR and R7 is an alkanoyl radical) in the presence of hydroxyl ions to cause cyclization thereof, or by reacting the corresponding 2-R2-6-NHR7-7-halo-5 : 8-quinoline quinone with ammonia or the appropriate amine NH2R and, without isolating the resultant 7-amino compound, effecting cyclization by subsequently adding alkali at an elevated temperature. Examples are given.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions having anti-tubercular activity comprise a compound of the formula <FORM:0885578/VI/1> (wherein R is hydrogen or an aryl radical which may be substituted by dialkylamino or alkoxy groups, R1 is an alkyl radical and R2 is hydrogen or an alkyl radical) and a carrier therefor.
