884,871. Making container closures; feed mechanisms for stamping presses. ALUMINUM CO. OF AMERICA. March 24, 1960 [April 1, 1959], No. 10443/60. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A method of making a two-piece closure for a container comprises forming a cup 10 with tapering sides, a shoulder 11 and a beaded edge 12, then severing at the shoulder to form a collar 13 and a disc 14, curling the edge of the collar to form a flange 22 under the disc and forming a groove 23 in the collar to retain the disc. Feed mechanism.-The closure is moved from one work station to another by a system of star-wheels 17 to 21 (Fig. 6), and guides 24. After the severing operation the wheels 17, 18 and 19 rotate and the component is transferred to the flarigin unit, and then by similar means to the grooving unit.
