Abstract
884,786. Carrying conductors through partitions; strain-taking devices for flexible leads. ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS. March 20, 1958, No. 9029/58. Classes 36 and 38 (1). [Also in Group XXV] A one-piece, synthetic resin grommet has a shank 24, Fig. 2, and a head 22, Fig. 3, split along one side to form opening 32, the internal surfaces of which form a kinked passage 50 into which a wire 30 may be inserted laterally before the grommet is inserted in its aperture 26 in a partition 28. One or more pairs of opposed shoulders 60, 62 grip the wire. The shank has protrusions 46, 48 which engage the rear of the partition to hold the grommet in place. The grommet may be inserted in its aperture by a tool 72, Fig. 12. In another arrangement, the grommet has two splits 32d, 32e, Fig. 14, and a plurality of kinked passages 82 . . . 92 each for gripping a wire.
