Abstract

884,178. Ventilators. LEX, E. June 19, 1959 [July 7, 1958; Jan. 12, 1959], No. 21078/59. Class 137. A ventilator grating has vertical blades 17 of V-shaped cross-section of which the apices lie in a plane parallel to the lateral planes bounding a frame 5 in which the blades are carried, each blade being fixed within an inserted frame 14 which may be welded to the frame 5. A second row of V-shaped blades, as shown at 18 in Fig. 6 may be situated behind the first row; and an air filter 9 may be secured on the inside of the frame 5. In a modification, Fig. 7, one arm of each blade is approximately at right angles to the lateral planes bounding the frame 5, and a third row of blades 39 is positioned between the blades of the second row. The device will operate to clean air irrespective of the direction of travel of the vehicle on which it is fixed, the cleaning being effected when dust particles accumulate in the spaces 25, 31 of the blades 17, 18 respectively and drop away, e.g. through apertures at 25. The vehicle engine fan may aid in drawing in air through the grating.
